Blood Bowl computer game coming Q4 2008

Post by duuk74 » Thu Jun 12, 2008 9:24 pm

Blood Bowl for pc is finally coming later this year.
It's developed by French Cyanide, who also made the BB clone Chaos League. I played Chaos League a lot, even made my own skins, and i think it had lots of potential. It didn't fly tho, mainly because of bad marketing (was mainly targeting the French audience..bah arrogant french, thinking they can make a game for themselves, ignoring the rest of the world.)

Ahem..anyhow.
Blood Bowl is basically american football, but much more violent and with a fantasy twist (orcs, undead, elves, and such). Also there is a management part, with players getting new skills, items and injuries and even deaths. Throw in wizards on the side of the field, hurling fireballs, star players, "event cards", crowd bonuses, traps, mines, doping, and lots of other stuff, it all adds up to a jollly good time.
Chaos League took some time to get skilled at, but it was fun getting there. But it's not hard to just pick up and play. Also, a lot of random stuff happens every game, so it's not purely based on skill.

I hope Blood Bowl is even better, cause it would be fun to have a YO league.

Today's random Blood Bowl info:

** DID YOU KNOW...

That the Lowdown Ratz (Skaven) experimented in training this year with a new player, a giant black wolf!
The wolf ate 6 team players, seriously injured 4 assistant coaches, crippled the apothecary and ran into the swamps with the only ball the Ratz have; effectively ending any chance of a Blood Bowl final appearance... Not that they had a Halfling's hope in the Chaos All-Stars' bathroom anyway.

That the former Skink international "Diegi Maratona" has been attempting to come out of retirement. Sadly, the little Skink wonder, that dazzled us all with his amazing dodges and runs in the 2486 Blood Bowl season for the Slashers, has almost tripled in weight, and now resembles a little green pudding due to his sugar cane addiction.

Running up huge debts (rumour has it that he challenged Tzeentch, Chaos God of change/chance, to a game of dice), Diegi has been forced to recover his career to get his finances in order. If the Skink can clear up his sugar cane addiction, then perhaps he'll be a surprise star of this season. But will anyone be willing to sign him for huge fee he's demanding?

A sizeable proportion of fans look upon a Blood Bowl match as an opportunity to cause as much mayhem and destruction in the stands as possible. Indeed, many fans feel that something should be done about the small minority of peaceful fans that turn up for the games just to watch, and spoil the fun for everyone else.

From what i've read and seen there is a good chance that the game turns out great. It's supposedly very true to the board game in terms of rules and gameplay.

There is a gameplay video out, but it's in French, and it's perhaps not the best game to watch videos of (if you want to to amaze and reel in potential new fans), and the presenter doesn't sound too excited about it all. But here is it anyway :)

Today's random Blood Bowl bit:

** DID YOU KNOW...

The High Elf team, The Dragon Princes, was made up exclusively of Elf Princes and High Lords, who were so haughty and proud that they refused to play anyone who was not of equal rank.

Consequently they never got to play anyone at all, and were disbanded after five seasons without playing a single match!

Many of the all-star Chaos great teams had Mutants: players with many more than their fair share of limbs, eyes, heads or other bodily organs.

Past masters include Margoth Doomgrin, whose body emitted sprays of soporific musk, that caused opponents to practically fall asleep on the pitch, and whose head bore an uncanny resemblence to a ball - his final decapitation by a Black Orc was messy but allowed the Gouged Eye to run in two touchdowns with a single play.

Team captain Snake Sanders whose hypnotic gaze granted to him after a Chaos Cup victory, proved his downfall one match, when he caught sight of himself in the Eagles' sideline dressing mirror and spent the rest of the game rooted to the spot.

Ruddog Ironhead who was the Chaos All-Stars leading blitzer for three seasons, until his massive armoured body and razor sharp metallic claws proved to be an excellent lightning rod during a stormy game with the Valkyries

So there is finally some new videoes from the upcoming Blood Bowl game.

The trailer now also displays a glimpse of the management part, and the different game modes.
There is also a sneak peak at the different races, and some of the feats in the game.
For example the ability, for monsters to throw small players+ball into the end zone for some carnage (and the occasional goal)

Head over to to the Blood Bowl gamesite to see what all the fuzz is about.
