I'm skeptical. echoes of black and white. Great ideas, boring gameplay. I really really really really hope I am wrong, but have you honestly seen any spore footage that you think will be fun to play?

I feel the same way. The game footage I have seen so far doesn't look that interesting to me, but we'll see...

The footage has been only a 'snippet' of the whole game.. this game is hopefully (crosses fingers) gonna have so much depth and development possibilities in it that i'd have fun just evolving different lifeforms for the fun of it ...
the fun starts september i guess

I will probably play this but it sounded much more interesting when it was first announced.
The current design seems a bit unexciting

So basically, if you haven't played the game for 10 days and you go back to it when your net is down you won't be able to play it.
I keep an rpg or rts installed for such scenarios.
Personally, I'd rather pirate the game.

well steam "requires validation" pretty much every day... as in you have to login every day.

Steam has a thing called offline mode. You can still play your games when the network is down. You just can't install them. This is a critical difference.

Of course, if you go into offline mode, make sure you have the latest version of any games you will want to play.. I did this at a LAN once, where there was no internet.. if you go into offline mode, you can't play your games, and you can't really do anything about it. is fantastic.

that's filth. both games are the sort of games i would play offline. the more I hear about spore the less i like the sound of it though so definitely a try before you buy product for me. Also the offline mode combined with the automatic updates has been great in steam for me, took my computer back to my parents over easter and played through HL2 until completion for the first time

Yes, but if steam has detected an update, but not actually finished updating, and you go into offline mode, it will tell you that you don't have the correct version and that you will be be able to use the game untill you're online again.

That's why we Yaaarrrâ„¢ those kinds of games that ruin gameplay of normal user for the sake of preventing piracy eg. "earning couple of more $". You... can... not... stop... piracy. But you can shit all over your customers that were stupid enough to trust you.

You can't! Valve been doing it successfully with won and steam, and blizzard with battlenet, and MS with its updates.
whenever i hear "you can't stop crime" it makes me cringe. meaningless false statement, endorsed by movie writers looking for a catchy phrase and repeated by weaklings.

You can't stop piracy, it has always been here and it's here to stay. It's a part of the balance of this world.

How do you think myg0t & JAPS members kept returning to servers, amongst others?
People will always work out a way to pirate

oh really. so when a criminal comes to kill you, will you just sit quietly or will you try to stop him? according to what you say there is no point trying, although i believe you would try to take him out anyway, independently what you said on the forum.

So anyway.... Spore. It's an EA game isn't it? That'd probably explain the crappy validation thing, bah!
